COVID-19 & Black Lives Matter Statement

COVID-19 & Black Lives Matter Statement
All of us at Thriving Inclusion have been motivated to make social change and obtain social justice on a personal level since the late 1980's and together since 2003.  We have  been involved with providing education, training, and consulting  including with police departments as part of our commitment to the Black Lives Matter Movement and other social justice movements.  For decades we have known about systemic racism including the  violence and death toll that Breonna Taylor and George Floyd were subjected to.  We urge people to do the following to address police brutality and obtain social justice by doing the following:
  • Support efforts to eradicate police violence and brutality and reform community policing, not only for Blacks and African Americans, but also for the many groups who are killed or harmed by police, including Native Americans, Latinx, Asian Americans, Muslims, trans and nonbinary people and many others. The Department of Justice must hold the police accountable for violence and violation to civil and  human rights.
  • Contribute to honest & authentic healing and reconciliation by donating, protesting, learning about white privilege and addressing racism and other forms of oppression with co-workers, friends and family.
  • Vote and elect local and national public officials who will only contribute to the betterment of our country with a foundation of social justice and democracy. They must be held accountable for their actions or lack of action, including the President of the U.S.A.
  • Provide ongoing diversity, equity, inclusion and justice (DEIJ) education and training, such as anti-racism and other anti-oppression learning experiences. We can help you with this.
  • Seek DEIJ consulting and coaching to improve organizational culture, diverse teams, inclusive workplace, customer experience and leadership development. We can assist with this too.
The COVID-19  virus does not discriminate. The impact clearly reveals the existing inequities in our society such as the discrimination in health care, who is experiences the digital divide, who are defined as essential workers and have to endure risks, who is likely to maintain their jobs and who is likely to receive "bailout" monies and loans to save their businesses. And once again, just like the outcome of police brutality, people of color are likely to die at higher rates.  Again, our motivation is to assist people and organizations to eradicate oppression and not to continue to reproduce systemic inequalities.

For the health and safety of your community and our team, we have suspended in-person training until further notice.  Due to the inconsistency of state policies and regulations, and a lack of a national strategy, we will provide services only through the virtual platform, Zoom. We will resume in-person training once it is safe to travel and facilitate in-person sessions.  Until, then please take the precautions of wearing a mask, washing hands, utilizing sanitizer, and social distancing.

Our commitment is stronger than ever and we continue to seek strategies and methods to assist people and organizations to do the same. We look forward to working with you and your team
Sincerely,
The Thriving Inclusion Team
